  5. This fact sheet lists legislative and corporate attacks on
  6. traditional family values. The purpose is to inform you as a voter
  7. and a consumer so that you can write letters of concern or boycott
  8. as you feel appropriate.  Full text of written sources is
  9. available on request.

  12. FREEDOM OF CHOICE ACT
  13.  
  14. Bill will legalize abortion through- out all nine months of
  15. pregnancy and bar states from enacting any laws to regulate
  16. abortion. The prime sponsor of the bill says that the FOCA:
  17.  
  18.       ".....is explicit.  It provides for no exceptions, no
  19.       exceptions whatsoever.  It is a classic one sentence statue
  20.       that says a state may not restrict the right of any woman to
  21.       terminate a pregnancy and that is for any reason."
  22.  
  23. ACTION:  Write to your Congressman and your Senators.  Express
  24. your strong opposition to the FOCA.  Explain that the bill would
  25. prohibit your state from placing any meaningful restrictions on
  26. abortion, even during the final months of a woman's pregnancy, and
  27. that the law would invalidate existing laws such as parental
  28. consent already found to be Constitutional. (See below for

  39. endorsed by Christian Coalition, Focus on the Family, Concerned
  40. Women for America, and over 40 other religious groups because of

  49. GAYS IN THE MILITARY

  51. Radical gay militants now demanding "queer quotas" and an end to
  52. AIDS test- ing in the military.  President Clinton has said he
  53. will end longstanding ban on gays in the military and could issue
  54. Executive Order at any time. Gen Powell, Chrmn Joint Chiefs of
  55. Staff, and Defense Secretary Sam Nunn have warned against quick
  56. action and many military leaders oppose lifting ban.

  58. Critics say allowing gays to openly joint military would undermine
  59. moral and pose an unacceptable health risk from AIDS. (FRC, Dec

  123. YWCA endorsed Freedom of Choice Act, saying "it is more important
  124. now than ever...[to] preserve women's basic right to reproductive
  125. choice." Local Y's were encouraged to join in effort to pass FOCA.

  136. The Southern Baptist Convention Annuity Board withdrew all
  137. investvestments of their pension account from Time-Warner.  Action
  138. followed Time-Warner's release of the Madonna photo book.  SBC and
  139. the United Methodist Church both continue to invest in Kmart which
  140. sells pornography through their Walden- books subsidiary.  The SBC
  141. Annuity Board is joining with other investors to ask Kmart to get

  147. The contemporary Christian music division ofTime-Warner should not
  148. be included in boycott against T-W to protest Madonna's porn book.
